Effects of Depression Sixteen percent of Americans suffer from depression according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. People are affected everyday by depression. There are many ways that depression effects Americans. Some ways that Americans are effected by depression are, the way they are effected individually, the way an individuals self-esteem is effected, and the way that depression effects relationships. Depressed individuals are a burned to their families and a relationship. Depression is not so hard on the Americans as it is on the individually. Their the one’s that has to deal with everyday of their lives. Depression affects individual in different ways. Psychiatrists argue that it is helpful to know depression in different sub-types. The sub-types not only affects symptoms but of treatment that will be effective. A depressed person can have serious issues. Like having suicidal thoughts. Rae Fry and Claudine Ryan said, For some people, the symptoms, are obvious. But others manage to keep up their daily routine. Not really knowing what is wrong. Here are some symptoms that affect depressed people. 1. Depression mood ( feeling sad or low ) 2. Loss of interest or pleasure ( in activities you normally enjoy ) 3. Significant appetite or weight loss or gain 4. Insomnia or hypersomnia ( sleeping too little or too much ) 5. Pyschomotor agitation or retardation ( being restless and jittery, or alternatively, slower than usual ) 6. Fatigue or loss of energy 7. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt 8.
