Personal Narrative

In order to stay healthy, it is vital that a diabetic takes insulin as prescribed and pay attention to the eating habits. Do this and you can live a pretty normal life. Do not and it can kill you. Christmas time in 1991 will ever live in my memory. To nobody’s knowledge my mom had not been taking her insulin the way she had been prescribed to and she temporarily lost her vision. The week leading up to Christmas she wrote me a letter and put it on the tree for me to open. When Christmas day came and I was to read the letter she could not see anything. As I started to read I could feel my eyes swelling and my body trembling. There was no holding back the tears as I read “Andy, I may never see you with my eyes again, but know that the image of my baby boy is burned into my heart.” I truly feel that my heart ripped that morning. You never know how blessed you are to be able to see until you have to lead your mom arm by her arm through a store.
