Personal Narrative Continued

The first week of practice flew by and our team was having no problem getting the moves together. Before the second week I decided it was time to let my parents know about what I had been so busy with the past month. Even though I had finally worked up enough nerve to tell them the news, I still knew what their idea of hip-hop music was. So I ended up taking the easy way out and writing the news in a letter. I choose to give it to my mom right before she dropped me off at school. She always took news better than my dad. The letter explained everything why I had chosen to not tell them where I had actually been every day after school and everything I loved about the dance team. When I came home from practice that day my parents were nothing like I had expected. Thank gosh I had decided to go with the letter! They said my letter had made them realize that they have to accept what type of music I prefer. They were pretty anger with me for lying about where I had been for the past couple weeks. But I had a feeling all that would change in a few days when they saw what I helped begin perform.

In the beginning hip-hop made my life an almost every day struggle against what my parents believed I should and shouldn’t listen to. Then something so simple as a genre of music inspired me to believe in myself, which lead me to succeeding. Now as I sit back I realize that hip-hop has given me self reliance, confidence, and most importantly taught me that the more I grasp a hold of the things I want in life and believe in myself I can do anything!
