“Timmy 2000” |

The episode that, perhaps, has influenced me the most is, Timmy 2000. This episode introduced Timmy, a severally handicapped boy, who, is in a wheelchair, and can only say his own name. Throughout this episode, the boys treat Timmy, like he is just a regular kid. At one point, Timmy joins a band, The Lords of the Underworld. They decide to enter a battle of the bands competition. When Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld started playing, everyone was head bangin’ and rockin’ relentlessly. But, unfortunately, not everyone felt that way. A couple adults, or party poopers, were appalled. “Hey, stop laughing at that poor kid,” someone hastily remarked, as they left the performance. To me, this represents people who are embarrassed for, or by, handicapped people. Instead of also cheering, they feel offended, and think the ones who are cheering, are being insensitive bigots, when in fact, they are the bigots. Watching this episode helped me realize that, just because your in a wheelchair, or have a mental handicap, doesn’t mean you can’t achieve great things in life. Also, it’s helped me realize they want to be treated like they’re as normal as the next guy. |
