“Bloody Mary” |

The first episode to get pulled was “Bloody Mary”, a show about alcoholism.Stan’s father, Randy, had the chore of picking up the kids after karate practice. On the way home, while drinking, Randy got pulled over and got tagged with a DUI. One of the best lines came from this show. When the officer came up to the window, Randy says, “Hello problem, what seems to be the officer?” That is classic. Anyway, he has to go to AA meetings. While the meetings take place, across town, a statue of the virgin Mary, is crapping blood out of her anus. The townspeople see this as something that can help cure them. So, the Pope, makes a special trip to South Park. While there, the statue, craps blood on the Pope. This was the first, and perhaps last time, the Pope was depicted having blood crapped upon him in television history. During the “Bloody Mary” episode commentary for the ninth season of ‘South Park’, the show creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, explain that a top executive, that happened to be Catholic, had the episode pulled. They said with the show airing close to Christmas, they wanted to not make people super pissed, or anything. There seems to be a pattern here. Two extremely controversial episodes, both being about religion. Coincidence? |
