Adoption

As the years go by and I get older I wonder who I would be today if I had been adopted.  Would I be less thankful than what I am, or would I just be like I am today.  Adoption can be a very emotional process for a child at any age.  According to the essay “International Adoption” written by Sharon Link in 2009, “since 1995, over 130,000 children have been adopted internationally into the USA (US Department of State, 2004).”   The child does not know what the outcome will be.  By being adopted, a child changes its attitudes over many things.  From my point of view, I believe that adoption is the best thing for a child’s future for many reasons.

One reason that I believe that adoption is a good thing is because it gives the child a chance to have an education.  If the child is not adopted then he or she would probably never complete school because it might live in poverty.  Having a family that cares for a child to learn is very important.  Adoption gives child an opportunity to go to school without worrying about not being able to go back home at the end of the day.  By being able to go to school, the child will learn how to interact with other kids at school.   This will teach the child speaking skills that he or she will need in the future. Therefore, when the child is able to complete school it will have a chance to have a good career.

A better living condition is another reason to why adoption is a good thing.  If the child is adopted from a poor country then he or she probably lived in an unhealthy environment.  Being adopted and moved to a modern country, such as the U.S., then he or she will be able to live in a more stable home.  According to Phillip Tutor from Newspaper Source, “Children need loving homes, parental guidance, a feeling of security when they walk through the front door after school or when waken in the morning.”I totally agree with him because when a child is adopted it gives them a security blanket, so he or she will know that they will never have to worry about where to go after school or if they will be sleeping in the same house every night.  The child will be able to have more healthy food to fill them up.  Being able for child to have a sanitized environment will make them realized that they do not have to worry about whether the water is okay to drink or not.  Having a sanitized home will make its life easier to adjust to their new life.

The third reason to why adoption is good for a child is because it makes them be more thankful for what they have in life.  An adopted child is more likely to be more thankful for the small things than other children would be.  A child is more likely to accept situations that other kids might not be.  The child will probably be more likely to look at the world differently than most young adults would.  For example a child that was born a country with less opportunity in life and then moved to a country where he or she is able to do anything they want to is going to be more thankful and more grateful for having a second chance of having a better life.  The child in going to be able to learn a different culture from what her or she was used from its old life, according to Skipping Stone article in Jan.-Feb. 2009, “adoptive parents are trained in ways to help their children adjust to a new language, culture and family life.”  This is an excellent idea; therefore, both the adoptee and the adopted parents are able to communicate with one another.

In conclusion, I believe that if a child is adopted then he or she is more likely to be more successful than if they had not been adopted because he or she would had to have stayed in a bad situation of foster homes year after year.  From my experience I was not able be adopted but I still got a second chance of having a better life.  My future looks bright and hopefully I become what I want to be.  Adoption can have some negatives affects on a child but the positive affects out weight the negatives.
