We knew this was something we had to fight. So we asked the Doctor. “what are Seth’s options?” He replied “Seth will need eight rounds of Chemo and then when the tumor his chest had shrunk then they would go in and remove it.” There wasn’t much we could say after hearing that except “When does he have to start his treatments?” We have all heard the horror stories of loved ones who have been on chemo and how sick it made them; it was heart breaking to think of my sweet baby boy having to go through that. The Doctor informed us “He will be checking into Kosair Children’s Hospital tomorrow.” We asked him “what chance does Seth have of beating this?” He replied “ He has a fifty-fifty chance.” This news was hard to swallow. He also informed us Seth would be trying some new Chemo and that it was the strongest treatment they had. It was the next day when we checked into the 7th floor at Kosair Children’s Hospital. It still didn’t seem real. I knew it was real but I was still hoping that it was a horrible nightmare and I would wake up to find that my perfect little Angel was healthy. His room was painted with bright colors, there was a huge gumball machine painted on one of the walls. There was a scary looking metal crib, and a little daybed/sofa that was built in the wall, so that his Daddy and I could sleep in his room with him. All the nurses and Doctors were so friendly, loving, and kind to us. I will never, ever forget how wonderful they were. In my opinion they are all Angels sent straight from Heaven. His Doctor scheduled many procedures and test for Seth for the next few days. He had to have small surgery on his neck to remove a tumor, they did a Biopsy, and they had to check his bone-marrow to make sure the cancer had not spread there. They had to also put a port calf in his neck so that he could receive his Chemo there and they could do all their blood work from there, that way he wouldn’t have to get a new I-V every time. And then he was also scheduled to start his Chemo. It was Hell for us to watch our child go through so much and be so little. We finished our first round of treatments, and after being in the hospital for about two weeks we were able to go home. The Doctor told us that we would be home for about 3 weeks, just long enough to get his counts back up and then we would have to come back for round two. They also told us that for the time that we are home that I would have to bring Seth up to Louisville once or twice a week to see his Doctor’s and then twice a week we would also have a nurse come to our house. |

Her is a pic of Seth in I at his Oncologist's office for one of his check-ups. I couldn’t see it at the time but now when I look at the pictures of him, I notice how tired his eyes looked, and I know that was the effects of the Chemo, in this picture he has also started loosing his hair. That was another sad day when we realized his hair was coming out.
