Brian Hainer Jr. better known by his stage name, Synsyter Gates, is the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. He is one of the most controversial guitarists of all time; many hate him, and most love him. I’m here to tell you he is the greatest of the new age guitar players. Syns’ heavy tone and sick blistering solos are what define him as a guitar God.  When Gates plays live he does what most guitarists consider hell on stage and that is play long fast solos. Syn does this almost flawlessly, he plays at breakneck speed and his technique is unique in almost every way imaginable. There is no one that sounds like him or has his showmanship on stage. I have seen Avenged live once, during the break in the set list the band leaves the stage and Syn stays on. He then announces the band has “put their slave to work” and continues to play a five minute or longer nonstop solo that impresses even the most challenging critics. I can tell you from experience no one can measure up to him, I’ve seen many of my favorite bands live and Syn blows their guitar players way out of the water.  What also defines him as a great guitarist is his virtuoso of many styles. He can play heavy metal to soft acoustic to a country style song called Dear God. There are no other guitar players that can play with as much feel as Syn can. I am a guitar player and I base my style off of his and it is one of the most challenging styles to master.
