September 11, 2001 was the day the twin towers fell to the ground. The day broke thousands of families apart. It was the day that changed America forever. Since September 11, America has been affected in many ways. The number of people with psychological consequences has increased, the amount of Americans who are prejudice against Muslims and Arabs has risen, and there is now a war on terror. Many people were greatly affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks, and because of these attacks, many people have wondered if there is a relationship between 9/11 and PTSD. PTSD is a type of anxiety disorder that occurs after being exposed to some kind of traumatic event. As expected, people who were in closer proximity to the attacks have been found to have higher rates of PTSD. In particular, PhD, Matthew Tull points out that, “20% of people who lived below Canal Street in New York City (which is close to the World Trade Center) were found to have PTSD following the attacks.” By having a loved one who was up |
