Text Box: Later that afternoon is when the wedding was going to start in the back yard at Linda’s house. Linda was a good friend of my mom’s; my mom was also her bride’s maid. The wedding went as planned; the reception was held also in the yard. The night had a light, crisp fall breeze. The sun was setting over the red cliffs of Moab Utah, which caused everything around to turn a bright red. Desert sunsets in Moab are so beautiful. The reception was underway there was food, cake and music. People were talking and laughing. The music in the distance was playing some weird music I had never heard before. The music sounded like something out of a Star Wars movie. The sounds of the keyboard were so high pitched that it would break your eardrums. As the night wore on, someone put a Michael Jackson record on. It was “Thriller!” When the music started playing, I was standing in front of the speakers and I could hear the creepy sounds that I heard come from the TV earlier. I started to dance to it, but I didn’t want to dance by myself. All the adults were doing their own thing, none of them wanted to get out there and dance. So I did. For a 6 year old I was going to rock it. I went up closer to the speakers, all by myself and started dancing. At first it was just me, but by the middle of the song the whole wedding party was there. They surrounded me, clapping and cheering me on. I remember it so well. I loved the attention I was getting. As I danced with everyone around me, I felt a little embarrassed at first, but when I noticed that everyone around me was smiling, dancing and cheering me on, it made me feel confident, and care free like a child should feel. This made me dance even more. I was swinging my head, clapping my hands. Not missing a beat. I danced till the song was over. Out of breath, smiling ear to ear, I wanted to do it again. So I asked, “Can we do it again?” then my mom said, “No, just dance to the next one Kim,” I wanted to keep asking, but I wasn’t going to beg because “Billy Jean” is a good song also. So I continued dancing. Everyone drifted back to their original places and I was left by myself to dance. That night will always stick with me.
